BANGALORE, FEB. 25. Karnataka State Police (KSP) defeated Southern Railways 3-2 in a Field Marshal Cariappa Memorial State-level hockey tournament quarterfinal at the KSHA Stadium here on Friday. Railways led till the break as Diwakar's 13th minute effort found its mark. However KSP surged back in the second half as Manjuath Jadhav (41st), Umesh Mudgar (43rd) and Lakshman Rao (49th) struck with precision. Railways' belated attempt to regain lost space however did yield a 63rd-minute goal as Arumugam sounded the boards but it came too late in the day. The match was replayed today as the original match held here on Wednesday ended in a stalemate with both teams tied at 3-3 after a goal was credited to the Railways' score following the team's protest and claim for a 62nd minute strike by Dixon. In the semifinals here on Saturday, HAL will clash with PCTC while Central Excise will take on KSP.
