Karnataka in quarterfinals

BANGALORE, FEB. 25. Karnataka stormed into the quarterfinals in the men's and women's sections of the 50th senior National ball badminton championship with an all win record in their group.

Karnataka men, with consistent performances from Muralidhara and Tejesh, notched up their third straight win in Group `D,' defeating Tripura 29-14, 29-13 on Friday and qualified for the last eight round.

In the women's section, Karnataka, spearheaded by skipper Savitha, proved too good for Chhattisgarh (29-9, 29-11) and Haryana (29-10, 29-10) on way to the quarterfinals.

Karnataka was joined by Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh in the men's quarterfinals, while in the women's section, the other teams in the knockout stage include Kerala, Jharkand, Delhi and Andhra.

The results:

Men: Group `A': Kerala bt Jharkand 29-13, 29-16; Kerala bt Punjab 29-18, 29-14; Jharkand bt MP 29-4, 29-1; Punjab bt Bihar 29-11, 29-8. Group `B': West Bengal bt Uttaranchal 29-16, 29-19; Andhra bt Uttaranchal 29-10, 29-10; Chattisgarh bt Uttaranchal 29-16, 29-13. Group `C': Chandigarh bt Haryana 29-23, 29-24; Tamil Nadu bt Chandigarh 29-14, 29-11. Group `D': Karnataka bt Tripura 29-14, 29-13.

Women: Group `A': Andhra bt Uttaranchal 29-16, 29-11; Kerala bt Uttaranchal 29-12, 29-12; Andhra bt West Bengal 29-12, 29-10; Uttaranchal bt West Bengal 29-16, 29-25. Group `B': Chandigarh bt Bihar 29-22, 29-17; Tamil Nadu bt Bihar 29-12, 29-10.
