HYDERABAD, FEB.25. All steps will be taken to pull APSRTC out of the red after receiving the recommendations of a high-power committee, the Transport Minister, S. Santosh Reddy, informed the Assembly during question hour on Friday. Replying to supplementaries during which members from all parties pressed for reducing the Sales Tax on diesel purchased by the transport body, he said the RTC was paying 19.33 per cent sales tax, which was not the highest compared with other States. He said the Government was willing to reduce ST if it was the sole reason for the corporation's losses. Asserting that all measures would be taken to bring down the losses to the tune of Rs. 1,100 crores and safeguard the corporation, he said the Government had appointed a high-power committee in this regard. The committee had been asked to submit its report in six months and an interim report in two months. Action would be taken accordingly.
Replying to another question, he denied that 90 per cent of autorickshaw meters were being tampered in the city and assured that a meeting with unions and others would be convened to sort out the problem.
Facilities at Srisailam
The Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, denied that basic facilities were lacking at Srisailam. To a question by Anam Vivekananda Reddy (Congress) and others, he said all facilities were being provided.
