HYDERABAD, FEB. 25. The Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, on Friday disapproved the display of placards by members of the main Opposition Telugu Desam and the Congress in the Assembly. Telugu Desam members displayed posters with pictures of liquor bottles soon after the Speaker announced that he was disallowing six adjournment motions tabled by different parties, including the one given notice by TDP on the new excise policy. Some Congress members countered the TDP action by holding aloft placards. This prompted the Speaker to tell `both sides' that the display of such placards was not allowed and it was not a good practice. Intervening, the Legislative Affairs Minister, K. Rosaiah, said the Government was examining the High Court judgment on the excise policy and would act accordingly. The notices given by the Left parties pertained to non-payment of minimum support price to paddy farmers. The BJP's adjournment motion was on the striking down of the GO permitting increase in liquor shops while the MIM's pertained to the problems of commuters and traders due to introduction of one-way in certain areas in the city. Janata Party member K. Ramulu's notice was on the constitution of education committees to improve educational standards. When the Opposition members pressed for taking up the adjournment motions, the Speaker said he would call the floor leaders after question hour to discuss the issues raised by them.
