Govt. has no objection to use of tricolour

NEW DELHI, FEB. 25. The Union Government today clarified that it had no objection if cricketers used the National Flag colours — saffron, white and green — without the Ashok Chakra on their costumes or uniform including helmets. This was conveyed by the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, to the Rajya Sabha Member and Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Rajeev Shukla, who met him earlier in the day.

Mr. Shukla told The Hindu that the Home Minister said there was no objection to the use of the Tricolour without the Ashok Chakra by the players, but for the use of the national flag in any manner, the existing legal provisions would apply.

Mr. Shukla had written a letter to the Home Minister on February 23 seeking a clarification "whether the cricketers could use the three colours of the National flag Fn their costumes without the Ashok Chakra following the ban on the display of the Tricolour".— Our Special Correspondent
