Seminar on use of simulators held
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 25.
The vital role played by training installations in the country was stressed by the Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) M.M. Lakhera.
At the inaugural of a seminar on "Use of simulators in defence forces' at the Military Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (MCEME) here on Friday, he recalled that in 1927, 24 year-old Edwin Link learnt flying and soon after started building a flight simulator. The integration of simulation into the defence process extended far beyond training and simulation routinely supported planning and decision-making, he said.
Well-designed simulators would offset the reduction of training areas, said Lt. Gen. S.S. Mehta, in his keynote address. Simulator networking was created through linking of simulators through Local Area Networks, long haul or Wide Area Networks and satellite links, he said.
Earlier, Lt. Gen. V.C. Jain, seminar chairman welcomed the gathering. Mr. Lakhera also visited the exhibition put up at the MCEME on the occasion.
