Autorickshaw

stolen

A trio -- two women and a man -- allegedly stole a three-wheeler after enacting a fake chase at Tarnaka on Thursday. Two women boarded the auto-rickshaw of Mohd. Saleem at Miralammandi around 9.45 p.m. When the vehicle was reaching Tarnaka, a youngster came on a bike and intercepted the auto-rickshaw. Even as Saleem was taken aback, the stranger held the hands of one of the women. The second woman jumped out of the vehicle and took to her heels. Meanwhile, the other woman pushed away the stranger and began to run. "In a bid to protect the lady, Saleem followed the woman who was being chased by the stranger riding a bike," the Osmania University police said.

The autodriver gave up the chase after running some distance and returned to the junction, only to find his vehicle stolen.

Six arrested

Six persons who landed from Gulf countries with forged passports were taken into custody at the airport here on Friday. P. Chandraiah, 42, G.K. Gangadhar, 35, P. Sattaiah, 33, M. Ramesh, 25, G. Srinivas, 30, and M. Ramaswamy, 30 were found possessing passports in the names of M. Balaiah, B. Bomla, S. Thiruapathi, L. Ram Reddy, G. Gangaraju and B. Govind respectively. While Ramaswamy flew in from Dubai, all others came from Abu Dhabi via Doha, the Begumpet Sub-Inspector, Sandeep Reddy, said.

Charred body

found

The charred body of an unidentified man aged about 30 years, who was apparently set afire after being killed, was found on the outskirts of Yamnampet village, half-a-kilometre from the Warangal road, in Ghatkesar police station area on Friday. Police said the body was wrapped in bed linen and was still burning when they reached the spot suggesting it was burnt in the early hours of Friday. The victim appeared to be a Hindu.

House looted

Thieves took away diamond-studded jewellery worth Rs. 1.67 lakhs from the house of V. Navneet Kumar, in Banjara hills after sneaking inside by opening the doors with a false key after Thursday midnight. The house owner,

A native of Latur, Govind Shankar Rao Sonwalkar, 28, lost Rs. 25,000 when thieves picked his pocket while he was sleeping near platform no. 5 in the Mahatma Gandhi bus station in the early hours of Friday.
