Children taken charge of

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 25. The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare has taken charge of the day-old male infant found abandoned in a field at Pathanapuram and the 18-day old twin girl babies who were found abandoned at the SAT hospital here. Any claimants to the children should contact the council authorities, the council administrator, Rozario Elizabeth, has said.

Counter opened

The National Insurance Company has opened a counter at the on-going loan `mela' of Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation. The counter was inaugurated by the Transport Minister, N. Sakthan. Various general insurance policies will be available at the counter.

`Defer VAT'

The Consumer Protection Council of Kerala has demanded that the Government defer the decision to introduce the VAT system in the State. The Council said that VAT system would lead to price rise in Kerala.

Man held

The Rural police have arrested a 35-year-old man on the charge of attempting to rape a 40-year-old Dalit woman in Aryanad police station limits. The police identified the accused as Sreekumar, alias Kuttan. He has also been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act.
