BANGALORE, FEB. 25. Six persons were robbed of cash, cellphones and credit cards in four incidents here on Thursday. The police said a person impersonating a policeman robbed an employee of a private company of Rs. 13,000 in cash in Jnanabharathi police station limits. Around 11 p.m., Siddalingeshwara Swamy was waiting at Kottigepalya to board a bus to his house in Mallathalli. A man dressed in khaki, who came on a scooter, told Swamy that he was a policeman from the Kamakshipalya police station and offered to give him a lift. Swamy accepted, and when they reached an isolated place, the man stopped the scooter and robbed Swamy of cash, the police said. The Jnanabharathi police have registered a case. Swamy works in a borewell drilling company in the industrial estate in 2nd Stage, Peenya. Four persons threatened three pharmacy students and robbed them of Rs. 500 in cash, credit cards and two cellphones in Devarajeevanahalli police station limits. The police said that around 10.30 p.m., four men knocked on the door of Mohammed Akthar Jalal's house in Kanakanagar on Dinnur Road. When Jalal opened the door, they asked him why he had "teased a girl" and asked him to pay them Rs. 20,000. As Jalal was talking to them, they punched him in the face. They also threatened two of his friends and robbed them, the police said. Jalal and his friends, who are from Maharashtra, are students at a pharmacy college in Hebbal. The Devarajeevanahalli police have registered a case. Three men threatened Rafiq of HRBR Layout, a student at an industrial training institute, and robbed him of two cellphones. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when Rafiq was talking to a friend near the railway over-bridge in Malleswaram, the police said. The Malleswaram police have registered a case. Two youths on a motorcycle snatched a bag from Rajeshwari of Kalappa Block on R.V. Road in Basavanagudi police station limits at 8.45 p.m. The bag contained Rs. 400 in cash and a mobile phone. The Basavanagudi police have registered a case.
Goods recovered
The Subramanyapura police on Thursday arrested three persons on charges of robbery and recovered from them gold ornaments, cellphones and an autorickshaw, worth Rs. 1.30 lakh in all. The names of those arrested were given as Gopi (23) of Jambusavaridinne, Muniraju (23) of Anjanapura and Manjunath (24) of Talaghatapura. They allegedly waylaid two-wheeler riders and robbed them of gold ornaments and cellphones in Gauravnagar, RBI Layout, Maruthinagar, Nayak Layout and Panduranganagar in Subramanyapura and J.P. Nagar police station limits, the police said. In another case, the Subramanyapura police arrested two persons on charges of theft and recovered from them steel centring sheets worth Rs. 45,000. Their names were given as Muniswamy (42) and Maadhu (27) of Puttenahalli in J.P. Nagar. They had allegedly stolen the sheets from two construction sites in Navodhayanagar, the police said.
Ivory seized
The Nandini Layout police on Wednesday arrested two persons from Andhra Pradesh and seized from them ivory worth Rs. 2 lakhs. Two tusks weighing 17 kg were seized from M. Chandrappa of Kuppam in Chittoor district and G. Narayana of Manganellore in Nellore district. The two persons were arrested on a tip off to the police that they were here to sell the tusks.
