BANGALORE, FEB. 25. The Mayor, R. Narayanaswamy, met the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, on Friday and urged him to permit the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to exempt owners of two- and three-wheelers from paying infrastructure cess. The BMP on Thursday approved a proposal to impose infrastructure cess and solid waste management cess on vehicle owners and property owners, respectively. As members of the Opposition parties protested over the new levies and demanded that owners of two- and three-wheelers and residential sites up to a dimension of 40 feet by 60 feet be exempted from paying the tax, the Mayor assured them that the resolutions will be modified. Mr. Narayanaswamy submitted a memorandum to Mr. Dharam Singh seeking the exemptions. He said the Chief Minister has assured him that the resolutions will be "modified at the government level if this will be beneficial for the people."
