KOCHI, FEB. 25. The city police have suggested that long-distance private buses be permitted in both directions on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra route. This will ease congestion on the city's arterial roads. The City Police Commissioner, Dinendra Kashyap said that a few feet of the footpath in Kaloor would be added to the carriageway, to prevent congestion in Kaloor after buses start operating on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra route. The bus stop on Sahodaran Aiyyappan Road at Kadavanthra will be shifted to a place at least 40 metres from the junction. An electronic traffic signal system will start functioning at Kadavanthra. These steps are aimed at preventing congestion at the junction.
Bus service by March
The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, said long-distance buses would be diverted through the route by the first week of March. The Corporation has agreed to clear the footpath of weeds and encroachers, he said. It has been suggested that the three bus-stops on the route be located at Katrikadavu, Kumaranasan Junction and Kadavanthra. The traffic signals could be located at Kumaranasan Junction and Kadavanthra. Parking ban should be enforced in between Kadavanthra and Vijaya Hospital and in between Kumaranasan Junction and Kumaranasan bus-stop. Another exit could be made in the Kaloor bus-stand for long-distance buses to enter the Kaloor-Kadavanthra road. Speed breakers should be constructed on byroads that are located on either side of the route.
