Turn system for trucks from tomorrow

KOCHI, FEB. 25. The Minister for Industries, V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, and the Minister for Sports and Fisheries, Dominic Presentation, will inaugurate the turn system for trucks on February 27.

The turn system is being implemented jointly by the Kerala State Lorry Owners Federation and Cochin Lorry Agencies Union at the Falcon Truck Terminal, Kalamassery. The new system is being implemented in the light of non-revision of freight charges after frequent hike in fuel prices, leaders of both the organisations said here today.

Under the new system, trucks should park at the terminal after off-loading and take tokens from the office of the Ernakulam district Lorry Operators' Association, which is inside the terminal. After getting the token, they can take loads on the specific rates decided for various destinations according to their turn from the office of the Cochin Lorry Agencies Union.

Freight charge

The new system will fix the freight charges by ending unethical competition between agents, help transport companies to finalise business deals as charges for each route could be finalised, control overloading of trucks and ensure job for all in the industry, they said.
