Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, FEB.25. A Class VI student, staying in a social welfare hostel at Veleru in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district, has lodged a complaint with the Nuzvid police alleging that he was made to drink buttermilk mixed with urine by the watchman of the hostel. However, the police have said that there is no truth in the allegation. According to the complaint lodged by the boy's father on Wednesday, the boy, who is said to be close to the watchman, used to run errands like fetching vegetables and grocery to the latter's house. However, three days ago, the watchman found that some money (said to be Rs. 2,000) was missing from his house. Suspecting the boy's hand, the watchman allegedly locked him up in a room in the hostel and thrashed him. The boy's father also alleged that his ward was tied upside down and was subjected to torture. The watchman was also charged with denying food to the boy and only gave him buttermilk when he complained of hunger and thirst. After a couple of days of confinement, the watchman allegedly made other hostellers urinate in a glass and mixed butter milk in it and gave it to the boy for consumption. However, the boy escaped from the room with the help of his friends and reached his parents in Nuzvid.
Police version
On receipt of the complaint, the Circle Inspector of Nuzvid, Gopalakrishna, began an enquiry. He told The Hindu that there was no truth in the charge that the boy was made to consume buttermilk mixed with urine. However, the police arrested the watchman on the charge of assault. Incidentally, the hostel warden was on leave for the last five days.
