Ayurvedic drug for AIDS

CHIRALA, FEB. 26. While clinical trial of investigational vaccine, designed to prevent Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) infection and Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has been taken up by the Pune-based National AIDS Research Institute early this month, the Lalithananda Ashram at Vodarevu, near here, recently introduced a medicine (syrup) for HIV positive patients. It is prepared purely from herbs.

At a function on the premises of the ashram, Sri Arulananda Swami, head of the ashram, said the syrup would improve vitality and resistance of the body to prevent rundown of health and at the same time destroy the virus.

The swami had worked on the formula for quite some time and succeeded in developing the syrup that has to be used for 48 days. The medicine was distributed to four patients including three women, in the presence of Allopathy and Ayurveda doctors with instructions that they should avoid tamarind, lime and salt in the diet, but should take more milk and curd rice.
