Need for more city buses: survey

HYDERABAD, FEB.26. Increasing the number of city buses, revising bus timings, solving traffic problem and combined pass for MMTS/RTC services figured as priorities of commuters in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

In a public opinion survey conducted by the Lok Satta district units on city bus and Multi Modal Transport System train services from February 20 to 24, 91.53 per cent of respondents wanted the number of city buses increased. Of 10,112 city bus commuters who were covered in the survey, 89.2 per cent complained about bunching of buses on the same route at a time with no service at least for half-an-hour after that. As many as 84.3 per cent attributed traffic problem to buses failing to stick to their schedule and 81.3 per cent are willing to travel by MMTS trains if they were available.

Of the 5,132 MMTS passengers covered, 83.9 per cent wanted combined pass for MMTS and RTC services, 82.1 per cent wanted increase in the frequency of MMTS trains while 75.2 per cent wanted link buses to railway stations.
