Letters to the Editor
Sir, The report that the RJD MP, Mohammed Shahbuddin, was ordered released by Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi from the Beur Jail, overriding the order of the District Magistrate, is shocking. If a magistrate is convinced that a person's detention is necessary for security reasons, is it proper for the Chief Minister to overrule the order? Particularly when the detained person belongs to the same political party?
P.M.G. Pillai,
* * * Sir, The incident shows how leaders can manipulate rules and exercise power to further their political interests.
