JAIPUR, FEB. 27 . Around 11 lakh children aged upto five years received pulse polio drops today in the Alwar and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan. ``Polio drops were being given to children of both districts after the presence of the virus came to be known from the neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh'', Rajasthan Medical Commissioner Dr. R.S. Gathala said here. Mr Gathala maintained that following the extensive pulse polio immunisation programmes held across the state, no case of this disease had been reported after 2003. "The spread of this disease had been apprehended in the rural areas of the Alwar and Bharatpur districts since these areas had not yet been developed academically," he said, adding that this was the reason preventive medical measures were taken today. ``Children will be administered polio vaccines at the booths set-up for this purpose following which health personnel will give drops for the next two-three days to those children who could not be brought to the booth by their parents,'' he added. -- UNI
