LONDON, FEB. 28. Alessandro Del Piero's brace helped Juventus beat Siena 3-0 on Sunday and move three points clear at the top of Serie A, while Sevilla climbed into third place in the Spanish league with a 2-2 home draw against lowly Racing Santander. Wayne Rooney scored early for Manchester United, and then notched the winner in the 81st minute in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Portsmouth in the English Premier League at Old Trafford. Gary O'Neill scored Portsmouth's consolation goal in the 47th minute. The victory helped United recover from a midweek loss to AC Milan in the Champions League, and pulled the Red Devils within six points of league-leading Chelsea.
Juve on top
Brazilian midfielder Emerson headed in Juve's second, from a corner five minutes after the break, before Del Piero wrapped up the win from the penalty spot. AS Roma lipped to a 2-0 loss at Palermo while Lazio enjoyed a 2-0 victory at home to Parma.
Sevilla held
Sevilla climbed into third place in the Spanish league with a 2-2 home draw against lowly Racing Santander. Brazil forward Julio Baptista gave Sevilla the lead in the 15th minute with his 12th goal of the season. Santander equalised in the 41st minute through striker David Aganzo. Sevilla's Uruguayan substitute Dario Silva nodded home from close range in the 79th only for the visitors to draw level again five minutes later, courtesy of Uruguayan forward Mario Regueiro's header.
