YSR trying to curb freedom of press, says TDP

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, FEB. 28. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is trying to curb freedom of the press, particularly the Telugu vernacular dailies, the TDP spokesperson, Nannapaneni Rajakumari, alleged here on Monday.

Addressing a press conference with the former Minister, S. Aruna, and the former Mayor, Kolli Sarada, she criticised Dr. Reddy for finding fault with the media for mentioning his son's name in Paritala Ravi's murder case.

Criticism

The lack of tolerance to the public and media criticism to his mistakes was clearly visible, she said pointing out at his speech in the Assembly on the headlines and photographs of a particular newspaper during the P.V. Narasimha Rao's cremation.

She said Dr. Reddy should remember that his padayatra was also given wide publicity by the same newspapers, which had written about his son's name being mentioned in the FIR.

Ms. Aruna rebutted the Congress leaders' criticism against the widow of Paritala Ravi. "If Paritala Sunitha is trying to come into public, why should the Congress leaders make an issue out of it," she questioned.
