MADURAI, FEB.28. The Chief Educational Officer, R. Pitchai, has been transferred to Vellore. The District Educational Officer of Madurai educational district, K. Sridevi, took charge as the new CEO today. The transfer comes two days ahead of the commencement of Plus-Two public examinations on March 2. Before his departure, Mr. Pitchai told The Hindu that during his seven-month tenure a lot of steps were taken to improve educational activities in government and aided schools in the district. The Sarva Siksha Abhiyan was given an emphasis and efforts were made to bring school dropouts in the age group of six to 14 years back to schools. He also said that attention was paid to improve results in the ensuing SSLC and Plus-Two examinations and teachers and students were motivated to perform well.
