Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article "Thy father's caste" (March 1). The Government should give one the freedom to declare that he or she does not belong to any caste. It should also be provided that no institution can compel a person to declare his or her caste.
S.V. Rajyalakshmi,
* * * Sir, The writer says caste-based reservation has vitiated the social atmosphere and suggests that the best way to ensure justice is to have reservation based on economic conditions. But how can we have such reservation without reforming the social order? The article also says that we allow the caste system to contaminate religions which do not have castes. It is only Hinduism that promotes the caste system. As Dr. B.R. Ambedkar said Hinduism can be saved only by annihilating the caste system.
T. Marx,
