PCA invites former Pakistan captains

MOHALI, MARCH 1. The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has extended invitation to former Pakistan captains and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials — including its chairman Shaharyar Khan — to witness the first India-Pakistan Test at the PCA Stadium.

The PCA president, Inderjit Singh Bindra, told mediapersons the association had already received confirmation from Rameez Raja. Among those expected to witness the Test are Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Hanif Mohammed, Javed Miandad and officials of the PCB.

Asked whether East Punjab Chief Minister, Parvez Elahi, had been invited, the PCA chief said the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh, who is also the chairman of the steering committee, had invited his Pakistan counterpart. The PCA president said more than 65 journalists from Pakistan are coming to Mohali.

Meanwhile, Venkat Sundram, chairman of the pitch (ground) committee of the BCCI, again visited the PCA Stadium and met Mr. Bindra and curator Daljit Singh and other PCA officials.

Mr. Bindra denied having received any instructions from the BCCI regarding preparation of wickets. He, however, said it would be a ``supportive'' wicket.

Mr. Bindra said PCA has sent 7,500 tickets against PCB's demand of 10,000 tickets. — UNI
