Pondicherry
Pondicherry March 1. Tension prevailed in Mudaliarpet near here today when two groups of Congress workers engaged in a wordy duel at the block committee office. The group owing allegiance to the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, objected to the writing of slogans by the group supporting the former Minister, P. Kannan. A functionary of the block committee, Veerabadhran, registered a complaint with the police on the writing of slogans and also criticism of the Rangasamy-led government in the graffiti. The pro-Rangasamy group of volunteers also whitewashed the wall to remove the slogans. A few minutes later the group owing allegiance to Mr. Kannan arrived at the office and raised slogans against Mr. Rangasamy. The pro-Kannan group also filed a complaint seeking police protection. A large number of police personnel were deployed.
