CHENNAI, MARCH. 1. Two-wheeler majors have reported improved sales numbers for February compared to the same month in 2004. All of them appear to be restrained by capacity constraint. Not surprisingly, Bajaj Auto is readying to beef up its motorcycle capacity. Nearer home, TVS Motor is gearing to enter Himachal Pradesh with a greenfield project and set to establish a new three-wheeler plant at its Mysore facility. Hero Honda said today that it had sold 2,23,546 motorcycles during February 2005. It reported a 27 per cent growth in sales during April-February 2005 at 23.89 lakh units, up from 18.77 lakh motorcycles in the same period last year. A release from the company insisted that capacity was a constraint. Following the market leader, the Pune-based Bajaj Auto said it sold 1.29 lakh motorcycles during the month under review as compared to 84,170 units in the corresponding period last year. In all, Bajaj Auto sold 1.39 lakh two-wheelers in February as compared to 1.06 lakh units sold during the same period last year. However, it reported a dip in three-wheeler sales. A release from the company said it sold 18,556 three-wheelers in February against 20,120 units in the corresponding month last year.
