Large crowds gather outside counting centres in Bellary

BELLARY, MARCH 1. As many as 659 out of the total 2,437 seats, for which polling was held on Sunday in Bellary district, have been declared.

For reasons best known to the authorities, the process of counting has been slow although it began as per the schedule at respective taluk headquarters on Tuesday morning.

People from various villages in Bellary taluk started gathering in large numbers in front of the counting centre (Poly technic) and were eagerly waiting to hear the results.

The sale of garlands and eatables was brisk. People cheered the winners, with a few carrying the victorious on their shoulders.

Following is the taluk-wise details of the results, as made available by the election cell at 8.00 p.m. in the order of number of gram panchayats, total seats, and results declared: Bellary 40, 425, and 140; Sirguppa 26, 284, and 164; Sandur 21, 323, and 104; Hospet 22, 281, and 40; Kudligi 33, 483, and 50; Hagari Bommanahalli 22, 294, and 40; and Hadagali 24, 317 and 121.
