BANGALORE, MARCH 1. Visually impaired persons often have a keener sense of hearing, and many make excellent musicians. This was amply proven on Tuesday when the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, released an audio cassette of patriotic songs sung by visually impaired youth from the Vijayajyothi Free Hostel and Training Centre for the Blind at the Raj Bhavan. The Amrutha Education Society, which runs the centre at Mallasandra in the city, also manages a cooperative society for women and two schools, its honorary secretary, M. Neelaiah, said. The free hostel and training centre is for both boys and girls who have completed SSLC. They are provided free boarding and accommodation and trained in singing and playing musical instruments. Some have become playback singers in films and others play in film orchestras. Computer training is given to those who have aptitude. B.M. Dilshad, who wrote the lyrics for the songs in the audiocassette, Ramachandra Gowda, MLC and president, Amrutha Educational Society, and Syeda Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka State Women's University, Bijapur, were present at the release function.
