TIRUVARUR, MARCH 2. Flood relief for the affected farmers of Tiruvarur district is being disbursed through Primary Agriculture Co-Operative Banks from March one, according to the Collector, P. Ekambaram. In a press release, the Collector said that in the heavy rain that lashed Tiruvarur district in the last week of October, samba crop on 44,457 hectares was damaged. The State Government had sanctioned Rs. 9.51 crores to Tiruvarur district for disbursal of relief to the affected farmers. Accordingly relief amount to the tune of Rs. 2500 per hectare for small and marginal farmers and Rs. 1000 per hectare for big farmers would be disbursed through PACBs. As the amount is deposited in the bank, accounts of farmers in the PACBs, farmers who don't have a bank account should open an account in the PACBs concerned, the Collector said. He also clarified that the amount would not be compensated for any loan borrowed by the farmer.
