Rupee steady

MUMBAI, MARCH 2. The rupee ruled steady against the U.S. currency in an extremely quiet and range-bound trade at the interbank foreign exchange market in the absence of fresh triggers.

Closing at the same overnight level of Rs. 43.70/71 a dollar, the rupee was wedged in a narrow band of 43.6900 and 43.7350 in muted business after posting an opening quote of Rs. 43.72/74.

A resurgent dollar overseas, mainly against the euro, fuelled renewed local dollar demand, but there was adequate dollar supplies from trade and foreign fund inflows to absorb the limited buying, dealers said.

The forex spot trade was dull and confined to narrow grooves in the absence of market-moving factors even as the outlook for the domestic currency remained positive, they added.

The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 43.70 for the single european unit at Rs. 57.54.— PTI
