Chakola ends Pakistan's challenge

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. Joseph Chakola scored an exciting victory on the first play-off hole over Pakistan's Vaquas Ahmed in the third round of the Eveready 104th all-India amateur golf championship at the Delhi Golf Club here on Wednesday. With the exit of Ahmed, Pakistan's challenge ended in the National championship.

The Chakola-Ahmed contest went to the play-off after the players broke even at the end of 18 holes. An errant tee-shot on the first play-off hole dashed Ahmed's hopes. He landed in the thick bushes on the left and the Pakistani eventually conceded the hole and the match.

In another match that went into play-off, Mohammed Siddikur Rehman of Bangladesh won against Delhi's Chirag Kumar, winner of the Royal Challenge RCGC Cup. Chandigarh's Karanjeet Singh beat 2002 winner Manav Das, also on the extra hole.
