NELLORE, MARCH 2. The first-ever personal banking branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in Nellore was opened on Wednesday, by the district Collector, B. Rajsekhar. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector, who is also the Special Officer of Nellore Municipal Corporation, while commending the services of the bank, asked it to take up the maintenance of a traffic island as part of beautification of the town. The bank officials agreed to the proposal in principle. The Deputy General Manager, Zonal Office, Tirupati module, A. Raghavendra Char, said the branch would provide single window service, besides offering online connectivity to more than 250 branches. It would also have ATM facility. According to him the branch was the 176th in Tirupati module.
In the forefront
The General Manager II, SBI Local Head Office, Hyderabad, P. Jagdish Babu, conceded that competition, particularly from private sector banks, has made it inevitable for the SBI to fall in line and improve its services. He claimed that among the three modules of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati, the Tirupati module remained in the forefront. With this branch, the number of branches in Nellore have gone up to five. The Director, Local Head Office, K. Balakondaiah, called for improved services as the times and aspirations of people were fast changing. He urged the staff to treat customers properly as the bank's foundations were laid on the confidence of customers.
