LONDON, MARCH 2. Brian Luckhurst, the former Kent and England batsman, died on Wednesday at the age of 66. He was associated with Kent County Cricket Club for 51 years and had been suffering from cancer of the oesophagus for some time. Luckhurst, who became the president of the county last year, played for the club between 1958 and 1976. His international debut came when he played five unofficial Tests against the Rest of the World XI in 1970. In 1970-71, Luckhurst scored two hundreds against Australia to help Ray Illingworth's England side win the Ashes in down under.
In all, he scored four centuries two against Australia and one apiece against India and Pakistan in 41 innings.
His final Test appearance was at the age of 35 during the 1974-75 Ashes tour. After this disastrous tour, he concentrated his efforts on Kent's fortunes.
