High-level meet on security

HYDERABAD, MARCH 2. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has stressed the need for restoring confidence of people in the Government in the wake of the killing of the eight villagers by the Maoists in the forest near Vempenta village in Kurnool district.

He made the observations at a meeting with top officials of the State Government here on Wednesday to assess the law and order situation following the incident. The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, who visited Vempenta earlier in the day, was also present.

The Chief Minister was said to have expressed deep concern at the loss of lives. The meeting took note that the incident at Vempenta was far different from what the Maoists were doing while committing offences ever since they announced their decision to pullout from the peace talks.

The Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, the Director General Police, Swaranjit Sen, the Principal Secretary, Home, A.K. Srivastava, and the Intelligence chief, K. Aravinda Rao, attended.
