HYDERABAD, MARCH 2. The Congress and Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday traded charges of wasting Assembly time, bringing up non- issues and not allowing debate on issues affecting people. Addressing a press conference, the Legislative Affairs Minister, K. Rosaiah, and the Government Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, accused the main Opposition of wasting the Assembly time on the first four days on frivolous issue like live TV coverage of proceedings. The next four days were lost in lengthy speeches by TDP members on Paritala Ravi's murder. And after so many days of debate, the TDP suddenly decided to "sacrifice" the discussion on murder and shift to public issues. The realisation was short lived and they were back to their old ways of stalling the proceedings of the House. Mr. Rosaiah refuted the TDP's charge that he had "run away" from the House and failed to reply to all their queries relating to the budget. The debate itself lasted for nearly 12 hours and he had done his best in summarising his responses in an hour. At a separate press conference, the TDLP Deputy Leader, T. Devender Goud, blamed the Government's stonewalling tactics and unsatisfactory response to the issues raised by the Opposition. Reacting to the Communist parties suggestion on ending faction violence in Penukonda, he wondered why they were particular about one constituency and not others in Rayalaseema. And why not they make a beginning with the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's whose faction background was well known.
