BIJAPUR, MARCH 2. The stage is set for Navaraspur Utsav, a three-day cultural festival scheduled to commence from Friday. The uncertainty over the venue has ended as the utsav samiti headed by Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Mohsin, agreed to pay Rs. 10,000 a day to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Rent
The ASI has clarified that it will allow the programme to be conducted at the Gol Gumbaz complex only against the payment of rent. Preparations are on for the festival that aims to promote the tourism potential of the city. Arches and hoarding have been erected at different places in and around the city. A makeshift stage is being set up adjacent to the pavement of museum building in the Gol Gumbaz complex. Asphalting of Station Road and other roads leading to Gol Gumbaz is also under way. Artists of various forms including, Usha Mangeshkar (singing), Aslam Sabri (a Mushaiarra artist from Delhi), Nirupama and Rajendran (Kathak), Narasimhalu Vadavati (clarinet), Praveen Godkindi (flute) will performing at the festival. While the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, will inaugurate the festival, the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will preside over the inaugural function. The Union Minister of State for Tourism, Renuka Choudhary, is expected to participate in the concluding ceremony on Sunday. However, their itinerary is yet to be confirmed, Mr. Mohsin, who inspected the preparatory works here on Wednesday, said. While talking to presspersons, he said that he was hopeful of all the dignitaries attending the utsav.
Memorandum
The district administration plans to submit a memorandum to Ms. Choudhary, seeking a special tourism package for Bijapur. Besides Gol Gumbaz, the city houses many historical monuments of Adil Shahi era. However, the tourism potential of the district has not been fully tapped. Tourist-friendly measures have to be taken up, he said.
