THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 2. The Government proposes to introduce a system of registration for home nurses serving in the State, the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, told the Assembly today. Replying to questions, he said the Police Department has been directed to maintain a record of home nurses being deputed by agencies functioning in the area. The thrust would be to identify each and every one of them. This was to avoid them getting cheated by the agencies as well as to prevent them from cheating those who sought their services. The Government was aware of the fact that there has been a proliferation of such agencies in some of the districts, he said. There were no moves at banning the conduct of `hartals' in the State. However, it was for the Government to ensure that such forms of protest did not affect normal life, the Chief Minister said in reply to another question.
Cases against officials
Steps had been initiated to attach the assets of Government officials who were found to have amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income. Cases have been registered against 115 officials of various departments of the Government on charges of corruption and irregular practices, Mr. Oommen Chandy said.
Women in Dubai jail
As many as 19 Keralite women have been detained in a jail in Dubai. The Government was doing everything possible to get them released without any further delay, he said. The Minister for Health, K.K. Ramachandran, said that the Government has asked the Centre to amend the existing rules to facilitate the transplant of kidney, mainly on a humanitarian consideration. Three medical colleges and nine private hospitals in the State have been authorised to conduct kidney transplantation.
