PATNA, MARCH 2. The Lok Janshakti Party chief and Union Steel Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, today maintained that there was no need for him to resign from the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government merely because the Congress had extended support to the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar against his wishes. Talking to reporters after the legislature party's meeting here this evening, Mr. Paswan maintained that the situation in Bihar was different from Delhi where an alliance existed and that the Left were opposed to the Congress in West Bengal. He charged that the RJD had blackmailed the Congress into extending support to it in lieu of its support to the Congress-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha alliance in Jharkhand. The legislative wing too adopted a resolution condemning the efforts of the RJD to form a government and underlined its resolve to oppose any move in this direction by the RJD or the BJP. Significantly, the resolution authorised Mr. Paswan to explore the possibility of forming an alternative government.
