Seminar on digitalised information exchange

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI, MARCH 2 . Building on the thrust provided by the University Grants Commission's recognition as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in the region, St. Joseph's College has organised a two-day national seminar on `Digitalised information exchange for quality sustenance and enhancement among accredited institutions' from March 3.

The principal, Fr. S. John Britto, believes that the initiative, prompted by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, would pave the way for a vital transition of education from the service sector to the industry. Interaction between stakeholders would lead to enriched content and relevant curriculum with respect to the job market.

Education would be standardised in terms of quality, relevance and quantity of new knowledge, and dissemination through modern devices of digital communication and information and communication technology (ICT) with sessions on `knowledge management and ICT strategies,' `pedagogy of e-learning and teaching,' `online examination evaluation,' `virtual lab and repositories,' `digital learning and satellite technology' and other related topics.

To maintain the momentum of this initiative, a videoconferencing facility would be inaugurated on the college campus through a videoconference on `Framework for digitalised information exchange' presented by A.R. Das Gupta from the Space Application Centre in Ahmedabad. VSAT equipments were airlifted from the Indian Space Research Organisation Centre at Ahmedabad.

The seminar, to be inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, C. Thangamuthu, would be addressed by experts in the field, including V.R. Katti, Programme Director, GEOSAT, ISRO Satellite Centre.
