Robbery attempt foiled

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2 . Two persons, who allegedly barged into the West Delhi house of a retired government servant with an intention to commit robbery today, were forced to beat a hasty retreat when the occupants of the house offered stiff resistance. One of them also opened fire in a bid to escape but was caught by the area residents and thrashed before being handed over to the police.

According to the police, Hari Singh, a resident of Janata Flats in Paschim Vihar, was sitting in his ground floor house along with his nephew, Girish, when the robbers barged into the house around 12-45 p.m. as the doors were not bolted from inside.

Quickly realising the intentions of the intruders, Mr. Singh and his nephew did not lose time in pouncing upon them and simultaneously raising an alarm. Finding themselves cornered, the duo decided to escape from the spot even as area residents were alerted by the shouts for help. As the residents zeroed-in on the duo, one of them, later identified as Parminder Singh Hudda, opened fire in a bid to scare them away.

However, he was caught. His associate managed to escape in the ensuing melee. Two residents sustained minor pellet injuries in their legs.

Having caught Parminder, the agitated residents beat him up before handing them to the police who took the accused to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital.

The country-made revolver used in the crime was recovered from Parminder's possession and the motorcycle, on which both had come, was also seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Parminder had no criminal case registered against him. Efforts are now on to identify his antecedents and also establish the identity of his associate.
