Stress on accuracy during enumeration

TIRUNELVELI, MARCH. 3. All out efforts are being made to ensure accuracy during enumeration of the intensive electoral roll revision in the district going on under the watchful eyes of the Electoral Registration Officers.

The 45-day long door-to-door enumeration exercise, which commenced here on March 1, would enrol all eligible voters in their actual names and not in their pen names. The enumerators could be seen repeatedly asking the residents to tell the exact number of members in the family, their names and age. Extra care is being taken whenever they come across the joint families to avoid duplication of names.

The head or the senior member of the family available at the time of enumeration is asked to crosscheck the names in the copy of the slip given by the enumerators in a bid to avoid discrepancies, if any, at the primary level itself.

"We have asked the enumerators to visit the house thrice if it was locked on the first two occasions. If the house is locked on the third occasion also, the enumerator would leave Form 4 in the house to enable the head of the family to fill-up all necessary information in the form and hand it over to the Electoral Registration Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer, Tirunelveli or the Tahsildar, Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai or the Corporation Commissioner, Tirunelveli," an official here said.

Eligible voters could contact the RDO, tahsildar or the Corporation Commissioner, if the enumerators failed to visit their area by April 15.
