Nagapattinam
By Our Staff Reporter
NAGAPATTINAM, MARCH 3. A group of lawyers and law students from Madurai are camping here and engaged in rendering legal services to tsunami survivors. The lawyers voluntarily came forward to render this service free of cost to the affected people with the approval of the Madurai District Legal Services Authority, a unit of Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority. The lawyers reach out the unnoticed villages in the district and make the people aware of the relief measures announced by the Government and help them get their relief. Sometimes, the lawyers take the victims to the officials concerned at their cost and got their due remedy. A. Sahaya Philomin Raj, an advocate of Madurai High Court Bench who is coordinating the entire legal work along with Bhagavath Singh and Chinnappa, said that they had established three permanent centres at Velankanni, Tharangampadi and Nagapattinam to help the victims. He said that a booklet containing all the tsunami-related Government orders, edited and published by him was released by Mr. Muhammed Isath Ali, District and Sessions Judge, Nagapattinam, which had evoked a good response from all quarters, and even people from interior villages came to know of it. The booklet is being circulated free of cost in all the villages. Mr. Philomin Raj said that they were planning to hold `Lok Adalats' with the help of Nagapattinam District Legal Services Authority to give people quick remedy.
