MUMBAI, MARCH 3. `Gaana meri zindagi hai aur diamond jewellery designing mera shauk hai' (singing is my life and diamond jewellery designing my passion), melody queen Lata Mangeshkar has disclosed. "I have a weakness for diamond jewellery. The first jewellery I got it done for myself was a diamond ring with L and M on it," the Bharat Ratna awardee told mediapersons here last night. "I have helped several of my friends and relatives in their jewellery making. I had taken a liking for jewellery designing ever since I was a child. My father had a drama company and I used to like his style of designing clothes and jewellery," she recalled. The singer, whose weakness for diamond jewellery is known, said that she had passion for photography and painting too. Lata was talking to media after launching her own signature collection of premium diamond jewellery in alliance with retail brand Adora. `Swaranjali', the special selection, would be both manufactured and promoted under the Adora brand name. The septuagenarian, who has won the hearts of millions of people across the globe, said that she had visited the jewellery shops during her trips abroad. Though her father had a liking for Portuguese and Goan style, she took more interest in Maharashtrian style. Going down the memory lane, the singer, who lent her voice in 18 languages, said she had taken a liking for a diamond ring with emerald in it worn by her father. But he never gave it to her stating that it would not fit into her fingers. "Unfortunately, a jeweller did not return the ring and watch, which I had given for repair," she said and added that she got the ring done again as she remembered its design very well. Lata recalled that her mother always favoured golden jewellery as it could fetch money at times of crisis. After she started earning, she got back the golden jewellery pledged by her parents because of financial problems. To a question, she said she would not be a brand ambassador for the product. "My first love is singing," said the singer, who answered queries with ease, and added that she had only designed the products. "Didi", as she is popularly called, had worked on Maharashtrian 'mangalsutras', nose studs, bangles and other jewellery. -- UNI
