Talks responsibility on mediators
The State Government wanted to invite mediators and make them shoulder the responsibility, he told reporters here on Thursday. Mr. Reddy said the Maoists unleashed violence just when the Government was about to initiate the exercise of resumption of talks. The Government went ahead with exploring ways to make the Maoist leaders return to the negotiating table in spite of the violence but in vain. It was therefore decided to leave the issue to the good sense of the public and mediators.

According to a press release from the Andhra Pradesh Employees' State Insurance Corporation (Regional Office), the following were fined: M/s Annapurna Trading Company, Kurnool, M/s Tiffin's Barytes, Asbestos & Paints Ltd, Cuddapah, M/s Padmavathi Industries, Samalkot, M/s Iswarya Foods (P) Ltd, Kondapally (Krishna), M/s Vijaya Veni Bar & Restaurant, Eluru, M/s Goyal Timber Techniques, Jeedimetla, M/s Prabhat Industries, Visakhapatnam, M/s S.S.B Enterprises, M/s Vijaya Laxmi Engineering Works, M/s Aruna Plastics (P) Ltd, and M/s Vinayak Hotels, (all from Hyderabad).
Arguments on excise policy begin
The Division Bench, comprising Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice C.V. Ramulu, heard the Advocate-General, D. Sudershan Reddy, at length. A single judge of the High Court earlier struck down a major portion of the new excise policy passing strictures against the attitude of the Government in trying to supply liquor even to the remotest areas. The State Government filed writ appeals against the order of the single judge.

Man axed to death
Peddodu was returning from his brother's house when he was attacked near Mathamma temple in the village with axes and knives, according to the police. In another case, a lorry operator, Sirigireddy Anki Reddy of Nabikot in Cuddapah town, was stabbed by his rivals near the old bus stand here on Thursday.

Assets unearthed in ACB raids
S.S.P. Yadav, the Director-General, ACB, in a press note issued on Thursday said that documents of movable, immovable assets, cash and jewellery worth Rs. 20 lakhs were found during searches. Mr. Krishna Reddy, who was the RDO Nagarkurnool in Mahabubnagar district, was trapped by the ACB in December last.

The principal of Government Degree College for Women, T. Sankaraiah, one of the chief guests, said the college had a good library with one lakh books. The college correspondent, D. Kodandapani, presided. The college principal, K. Siva Prasad Rao, said six new subjects, including tourism, fashion design and food science, would be introduced. The PRO, H.S. Muniratnamiah, welcomed.
