Jharkhand issue rocks Chhattisgarh Assembly

RAIPUR, MAR. 3. The Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha could not transact any business except question hour today as the ruling party and opposition Congress members raised slogans and counter-slogans over the Jharkhand issue.

Soon after the question hour, BJP members were on their feet, alleging that the Governor's decision to swear in JMM chief Shibu Soren as Chief Minister in Jharkhand amounted to ``murder of democracy''.

As this sparked noisy protests from the opposition Congress, the BJP members started raising slogans against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, prompting opposition to raise counter-slogans.

As the din continued, Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey adjourned the House for ten minutes. Even after the House re-assembled, slogan- shouting continued, resulting in a second adjournment till 3 pm.

When the House assembled after lunch recess, Vijay Agrawal, Vinod Khandekar, Devji Bhai Patel, Rajinderpal Bhatia and Devalala Dugga (all BJP) raised slogans against the UPA Government and Ms Sonia Gandhi.

The Speaker expunged certain remarks made by the BJP members against the Jharkhand Governor during the slogan- shouting and later adjourned the House for the day. UNI
