Air passenger sent back

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 3. A Cameroon national who had flown into Delhi from Kathmandu today by a Jet Airways flight for onward journey to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia was forced to return to Nepal by the next flight of the same airline as his ticket to Ethiopia had expired and there was no one to fund his travel.

It was at around 9-30 a.m. that the passenger, Bayere Anyangwe, who had flown in from Nepal by Jet Airways flight 9W 401 was spotted moving around nervously in the Transit Lounge of Indira Gandhi International Airport. On being questioned by the authorities, he disclosed that he had to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 678 for Addis Ababa yesterday but could not do so as the airline officials told him that his ticket for December 9, 2004, had expired.

As the passenger did not have enough money on him to buy another ticket, he was unable to board a flight for Ethiopia. Though the passenger sought help, he was unable to find anyone who would fund his journey. Therefore, he was sent back to Kathmadu by the next Jet Airways flight.

A senior official said the humiliation and inconvenience caused to the passenger could have been avoided had in Kathmandu itself the airline staff checked his tickets properly as he was a transit passenger.
