PFC presents dividend

NEW DELHI MARCH 3. The Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has paid an interim dividend of Rs.150 crores to the Union Government for the year 2004-05. At a simple ceremony in the Union Ministry of Power today, a cheque for the amount was presented to the Power Minister, P.M. Sayeed, by the Chairman and Managing Director of PFC, Arvind Jadhav.

This is in addition to Rs.160 crores interim dividend already paid to the Government during 2004-05.

The Government has consistently rated the Corporation as "excellent" on the basis of its performance on the MoU parameters. PFC has also figured among the `Top 10 performing PSUs' for the years 1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03.

Nepal team meets Speaker

NEW DELHI MARCH 3. A four-member delegation of the Nepal Congress led by Sujata Koirala called on the Delhi Assembly Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, at Old Secretariat here today.

The delegation requested Mr. Singh to intervene for restoration of democracy in Nepal. Ms. Koirala appealed to Mr. Singh to take up the matter with senior Indian leaders so that they could ensure that censorship on the press in the Himalayan Kingdom was lifted and politicians languishing in jails were released.

DPS Sports Day

NEW DELHI MARCH 3. Former cricketer Kapil Dev was the chief guest at the Sports Day celebrations of the Rohini branch of the Delhi Public School recently. The Co-Chairman of DPS, Ashok Chandra, presided over the function.

The programme began with a march past by the students to the tune of the Delhi police band. The students took part in a number of sports-related activities. Mr. Dev awarded medals, cups and trophies to the winners of various inter-school games at the zonal, State and national level.

Montek visits power facility

NEW DELHI MARCH 3. "The achievement of PowerGrid in terms of grid management is so impressive that it needs to be widely appreciated,'' said the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, during a visit to the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre this past Tuesday. The CMD of PowerGrid, R.P.Singh, gave him a brief presentation, indicating growth in terms of transformation capacity (MVA), turnover and net profit, gross fixed assets, and growth in inter-regional exchanges.

During his visit to the NRLDC Control Room, Mr. Ahluwalia was informed about the RLDC activities which ensure secure and safe grid operation. The economic aspects of the grid operation involving mechanism of Unscheduled Interchanges (UI) based on system frequency was also shown to him.

Special entry

NEW DELHI MARCH 3. The Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan would be kept open exclusively for personnel of the Armed, para-military and police force and their families on March 15 and 16.

The personnel would have to bring their identity cards with them to get entry to the Mughal Gardens. Entry to the Gardens would be from the Bio-Diversity Park through Gate No.35 of the President's Estate.
