CHENNAI, MARCH 3. The Sembium police today seized 20,000 litres of stolen aviation petrol and arrested six persons. R. Samuthrapandi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pulianthope, said following complaints of pilferage of aviation fuel, a special team seized the fuel from a shop in Sembium. Police said the fuel was pilfered from 12,000-litre tanker lorries by the drivers and cleaners. They removed 100 litres at a time after filling up the lorry and in the past 15 days had stolen 20,000 litres of fuel. The stolen fuel was replaced with kerosene, police said. Two drivers and two cleaners identified as Veeramani and Janardhanan and Anbu and Sezhian were arrested. They also arrested the buyer, Balu and his assistant Saravanan of Sembium. Cases under sections 379 (Theft), 406 (Criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating) of IPC have been filed. against them, the police added.
