`Aquatic sports complex is pride of the city'

By Our Staff Reporter

Kunuku Rajasekhar

VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 3. The Congress corporator of the 29th division, Kunuku Rajasekhar, resides amongst people who elected him to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). The swimming pools, that are the pride of the city, are located in this division.

"The power charges and other expenses for maintaining the swimming pools costs the VMC exchequer Rs. 3.5 lakhs per annum. It is a big burden on the corporation," says Mr. Rajasekhar. But he agrees that the aquatic sports complex is a feather in the cap of VMC. Mr. Rajasekhar says that any burden on the municipal corporation will ultimately fall on the citizens. It is for this reason that he is very careful in asking funds for laying reinforced cement concrete roads where the less expensive BT (black-topped) roads would suffice. Though he hesitates to take credit for the large-scale road widening and development work, he is happy that families living on canal bunds and on the railway track margins have been relocated in VAMBAY housing colonies.

Ward budget

He used the Rs. 60 lakhs ward budget allocated for his division for carrying out repairs to major roads, laying of internal roads in Gandhinagar, Ramnagar, Bhavajipet and Seethannapeta and replacing underground drainage system again in Seethannapeta and Bhavajipet.
