Kalam urged to recall Jharkhand Governor

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELLARY, MARCH 4. Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a demonstration here on Friday urging the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to recall the Governor of Jharkhand.

They also burnt the effigy of the President of the All-India Congress Committee, Sonia Gandhi.

Janardhan Reddy, president of the district unit of the party, submitted a memorandum addressed to Dr. Kalam to the Deputy Commissioner. He described the action of the Governor in permitting Shibu Soren to occupy the Chief Minister's post by depriving the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) the opportunity to form a Government, as a "murder of democracy."

Stating that the Governor seemed to have forgotten that the Legislative Assembly was the ideal place to prove majority and not the Raj Bhavan, Mr. Reddy charged that all the democratic norms had been flouted.

He urged Dr. Kalam to initiate steps to recall the Governor and allow the NDA to form the Government in Jharkhand.

B. Sriramulu, MLA; Somashekar Reddy, Mayor; Allabaksh, former Municipal president; Nagabhushan, Hanumanthappa, and Lokesh, corporators; participated.
