KOLKATA, MARCH 4. Television viewers of the sub-continent will now get a chance to feast on Brazilian football, which has a strong following in India. This was announced here on Friday by ESPN-Star Sports (ESS), which has acquired the broadcasting rights of three important Brazilian football championships — The Brazilian Championship (Campeonato Brasileiro), the Paulista League or Campeonato Paulista and The Brazilian Cup or Copa do Brasil.

The 24-team Brazilian Championship will be the feature event and will be played almost over eight months staring from April 24. The matches will either be beamed live or will be shown on a same day delayed/taped basis while the important games will be repeated at viewer friendly times.

ESPN-Star Sports has also augmented the football package including the FIFA World Cup 2006 and the FIFA Confederations Cup to be played in June, informed Mr. Sricharan Iyengar, vice president-sales and marketing. — Our Sports Reporter
