Women empowerment key to progress: Shinde

KURNOOL, MARCH 4. The Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, has said empowerment of women will steer economic prosperity of the State.

Addressing a meeting of women groups at Allagadda today, Mr. Shinde said micro-finance helped development of entrepreneurship in women. He noted that thrift was essentially linked to women who save small amounts for the family.

He appreciated the district administration for providing financial support to women to set up dairy units. Mr. Shinde said the Congress Working Committee had undertaken a debate on empowerment of women and steps to achieve it.

The Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, said given an opportunity women would excel in all fields. He sought cooperation of women in reducing tension and gun culture in society.

He said the ideology of naxalites was progressive but the means they adopted was reprehensible.

The Governor gave away assets and bank loans worth Rs. 3.10 crores to women groups and physically challenged.

The Governor's wife, Ujwala Shinde, the Minister, M. Mareppa, the Allagadda MLA, Gangula Pratap Reddy, the Mahabubnagar MLA, Veeranna, the Collector, Vikas Raj, and others were present.
